Poland Patrol
The Town of Poland contracts with the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department to provide police services 16 hours a day, seven days a week. This service is provided by 2 full-time deputy sheriffs and part-time deputy sheriffs on the weekend. The Town deputies patrol only the Town of Poland and the Town pays the County for this service over and above the County Tax.
The Town has a Sheriff’s Substation next to the Town Office and provides 2 police vehicles for the Town deputies to use. The Town of Poland has had a contract with the County for over 31 years. The County Rural Patrol provides services for the town when the Town deputies are off duty. The Town of Poland becomes part of the county rural patrol for the remaining 8 hours.
This program is an alternative to starting a police department and it is affordable for a town that wants more than rural patrol. This program has worked successfully for the Town of Poland.
